Temperature measurements would be cool. And I dont think it would be very frustrating to have that other app installed. Its free, doesnt take that much resources and it is cool
I'm throwing a few idea's around for 0.9/1.0 series of Deimos. What do you think? Do you have more idea's?
- A full screen window replacing the smaller Deimos Dashboard like http://community.citrix.com/download/attachments/43614355/XenCenter_overview.png
- Realtime online/offline status, CPU usage, memory usage, network usage (like in above screenshot) at website
- Processes statistics. Track statistics of a certain process (program/service) with uptime, memory usage and cpu usage.
Some kind of system-administrator-edition is also possible:
- Grab screenshot of every logged in user and view it from a remote interface or at the website
- View realtime location of computer based on IP and Wifi
- Per interface network statistics
- View system logs (Windows event log, Linux logfiles)
- Even an console from the interface or website is possible.
The process tracking means you can identify certain apps being used right?
That could be fun, for measuring the current status of the browser wars for example (usage stats for IE vs Firefox vs Opera vs Chrome vs ... all others out there).
Or for identifying specific apps/games a user runs/plays most and display as a form of achievement... there's this website (http://www.forumbars.co.uk/ ) with little signature bars for people to use that has loads of them. They have it like this:
The system admin part of things you said at least to me I don't think I would make much use of it, but I know there's people out there with lots of machines and VMs that could use it.
And I guess that would be on a private section of each user, as to no one mess with the other people's computers.
You mean a forumbar in all of your posts when you got an achievement? Sounds cool, but the msot active persons have a lot of achievements (NeoGen 4, 350Z 7,and dutchmega 9), so I think the forum would be horrible to read. Although, one forumbar with the ammount of achievements if an improvement.
I agree with the system/administration edition. I think it wouldnt be used much. Your idea about time the browser is on is great.
I don't want to allow forumbars here, it takes too much space. Automatically generating forumbars for other forums based on your application usage is possible.
The question is also.. should I keep track of all applications or only track applications that users manually specify... Due privacy issues. I can also make it an option obviously.
A system-admin-edition would be nice but if nobody uses it yet... Perhaps later.
About the achievements... There aren't so many achievements and it's a bit unfair that most people don't have as many achievements. I could update the current achievements to make like Level or Bronze/Silver/Gold variant. Mr Keyboard Level 1 = 1000 keystrokes, Level 2 = 10 000 keystrokes, Level 3 = 50 000 etc. Or I can add more different achievements.
I didn't mean really forumbars but it was the only visual aid I could think of. I was thinking something like the icons for the hardware on the computers pages, but for the software.
The bronze/silver/gold would be really cool. And make the gold achievements really hard to get.
By the way, what happened to the RAM usage achievement?

Great idea! Because it is almost impossible for new users to get achievements, and like this, there will be sort of competition in it.
Another idea: laptop accu's. I dont have much time atm, but there are lots of possibilities with that I suppose.
Laptop batteries. I can think of:
- Average time spent on battery
- How long until batteryrecharges
- The maximum percentage the battery is able to reach
I really like all the stats, have you given any thought to listing an individuals stats? I would like to be able to see all my hosts broken down for hours, network, uptime, and so on without having to look at them one at a time.
A couple of things. Detection of USB Hard drives would be good, if possible. Something I'd really like to see would be an addition to the stats page, that is, Top Computers, longest hours, most mouse clicks/keyboard strokes, etc. Similar to the suggestion that Liuqyn just made
